FORAMINIFERA - A STORY IN A SHELL

This short story takes you on a quick but profound, eye-opening journey about one of the most fascinating organisms in the ocean.

The weird world of plankton is rich in exotic-looking life. The majority of it is too tiny for the naked eye.

This film is a computer-generated animation. There’s no real footage used, as this story is un-filmable.

HOW IT WAS MADE

A few notes from Daniel:

The production of this short film, at least up to the current point, was accomplished in several stages. Research, reading hundreds of publications, and reference gathering, on and off, lasted for nearly 4 months.

The production lasted around 3 months, which included an uncountable number of heavy fluid and soft tissue simulations, most of which had to be discarded and re-done. All stages of the animation pipeline had to be performed in parallel, with extraordinary precision in timing and computational resource allocation.

Basically, the whole film is my passion project, idea for which originated as early as during my marine biology student days.

Yes, you are welcome to discuss hiring a professional voice actor in any language.

All clips that make up the short film are available as stock footage to be used non-exclusively for any production. Please take into account that the footage is rendered at 2560×1440 and a 4k delivery involves a delay (or a hefty rush fee).

Much as Radiolaria Visuals are big fans of marine biology and facilitating education, the company is not funded by a research grant, does not have any educational sponsorships, or receive government funding.

Educational use is seen as commercial use and requires a license and a screening fee.

We are happy to help you to communicate with the media department of your educational facility and come up with a solution.

No youtube/social media remixing is allowed without a license. There may be exceptions that can be discussed and approved.

Commercial news services, media blogs, etc. are encouraged to discuss publications officially. An embed function is enabled on Youtube. However, publishing copies or screenshots is not allowed without explicit permission.

The scenes and underlying assets are backed up and thus it is possible to commission an alternative interpretation and re-render of the available scene.

Some of the assets, models, materials, and other components of the scenes may be available for licensing.

Please note that file preparation is only done under detailed instructions of a CG supervisor and can include commissioning Radiolaria Visuals for the time and computational power that is required to fulfill the request.
